🤒 Report an absence

First, phone the nursery and speak to the Manager, Deputy or Third in Charge yourself. Not a text, not an email, and not someone else for you. Then fill this in, so there is a record and the managers can arrange cover. 📞 0208 088 8784

The procedure

  1. When to call: the evening before your shift if you can, and by 7am at the latest. If nobody has heard from you by 7am, you are expected to start your shift.
  2. On an early shift: also text the manager (never between 9:30pm and 5:30am), then phone by 7am.
  3. If you go home sick, or you are still off: call before 3pm every day to say whether you will be in tomorrow. In the first week, every day.
  4. Tell us about courses, home visits or anything else booked, so it can be rearranged.
  5. Coming back: call by 3pm the day before you return.
  6. More than 7 days in a row (counting weekends and days you don't work): you need a fit note from your GP or hospital.
  7. When you are back: complete your self-certification below, and have a short, supportive return-to-work meeting with your manager on your first day.
  8. Pay: the first three days of sickness are unpaid; Statutory Sick Pay is paid from the fourth day.
  9. Something infectious? You follow the same exclusion periods as the children: Sickness and illness policy.

From the Absence Management policy, the Staff Handbook (Reporting sickness absence) and the Return to Work Interview policy. Training: Absence, Sickness & Return to Work. Not following it can delay sick pay and may be treated as unauthorised absence.
