📝 Write an observation
Write what the child actually did or said, while it is fresh. Link it to the statements it shows — before or after you write it — and decide how secure each one is. Then open Ovivio and copy each part across, in the same order as Ovivio’s own form.
What this shows
Development Matters wording, exactly as published. Pick how secure it is for this child — that is what Ovivio asks next to each statement.
The observation
What happened → what it tells us. Most days deserve one line.
Examples for this statement — a guide, not something to copy
Copy the shape, not the words. If it reads like the example, it is the example — and an inspector reading five children’s files will notice.
Next steps for this child optional
It goes on the child’s record, and it is written as what you will put in place for their learning — the environment, your support, their interests. Not a statement for them to hit. That is Ovivio’s own guidance too.
✔ “Put scissors in the playdough — she keeps asking to cut it.” ✘ “She will cut along a straight line.”
Now put it into Ovivio
Open a new observation in Ovivio and go down its form in this order. It opens in a new tab, so this page stays here to copy from.
1Select children — choose the child in Ovivio, and set the date.
