Staying Calm and Raising the Alarm

~5 min

Learning purpose: Staff should understand their role in responding calmly when a child is injured or unwell.

JLK practice standard: In an emergency, staff must stay calm, get help quickly and follow site procedures.

Key staff expectations:

  • Stay with the child.
  • Call for a qualified first aider.
  • Keep other children safe.
  • Do not panic or crowd the child.
  • Follow instructions from the first aider or manager.

Module 2

Knowing First Aider Responsibilities

  • Know where first aid kits are kept.
  • Do not give treatment beyond your training.
  • Share accurate information about what happened.
  • Support safe supervision of other children.

Module 3

Recording Incidents and Informing Parents
