How to useHow to use this tool
~2 min
Use this when you're planning for a specific child or key group and want to browse Development Matters statements without hunting through the PDF.
- Pick the age band your child is currently in.
- Pick an area of learning (or leave “All areas” for the full band).
- Or type a keyword (“water”, “friend”, “count”) to find statements by content.
- Expand any statement to see the JLK activity launchpad and adult moves.
💡 Tip: the statements are quoted word-for-word from Development Matters, so you can use them safely on JLK Stories, ISPs, and observations. The activity and adult-move suggestions are ideas we've seen work in JLK rooms — use them as a starting point, then adapt them to the child in front of you.

Pick one child in your key group. Do this NOW while the mapper is open above.
- Filter to their current age band.
- Skim all seven areas — pick the ONE area where you feel least sure of what next.
- Read every statement in that area. Note the 2–3 the child is already doing.
- Pick 1 statement they're reaching into but not yet secure on.
- Expand it — note one activity idea and one adult move.
- Try it this week. Record what happens in your next observation.
Bring the result to your next 1:1 with your manager.
